Reviews
We stayed at T17. There are horses right next door and when the wind shifts you get blasted with their lovely smell. Other than that camp was clean and staff was friendly. After BLM and primitive National Park camping for 2 days it was nice to have warm showers and electricity. The sites are small and cramped, but it's KOA camping. If you want private there's plenty of wide open space in the National Parks and BLM lands where you can also pack out your poop. Sometimes you trade privacy for flushing toilets and warm showers so don't let the negative reviews on it being cramped sway your decisions. If you're looking for a place to clean up, recharge devices and enjoy a warm shower this place is perfect.
We stayed in cabin K04. It has two bunk beds and a full bed. The bunk bed room has a door so whoever sleeps in the full bed can snore and fart as much as they want. The bathrooms/showers are really close. The kids loved the playground and barrel rides. Both rooms had a heater. The staff was always friendly and helpful. We also had a bull and cow elk greet us one morning. My wife said the coffee was the best she's ever had.
You can tell the staff really love this campground and want you to have a great experience. This location has less amenities than other KOAs we have been to, but it makes up for it with location and hospitality. There is a ton to do nearby and the area is stunning. An elk came right up next to our cabin and we saw an eagle flying over the dam across the street. There were a few scheduled activities at the campground while we were there and the staff did a great job of making sure everyone knew so we could be involved.
We stayed in a cabin and it was very well kept along with the bathrooms and laundry/dishwashing room. The RV spots seemed more basic than usual but we didn’t use those so I can’t confirm that experience. Some spots had better views than others but honestly you can’t have a bad view here. You are surrounded by mountains.
The only real negative thing I could find was that I didn’t realize there was a dam right across the street, blocking the lake view for some areas of the camp. But my husband loves dams and he thought it was cool having a view of the dam 🤷♀️
Overall we had a wonderful time. We stayed four nights and it didn’t feel long enough. We will definitely be back
We stayed in one of the camping cabins. We had a great view of the Rockies, close to the town center and grocery store. The store by the lobby has a variety of essentials.
Went for a short hike in June 2019. It was pretty beautiful all around. There is a lake when you reach the top. And you can sit around for there a bit. Loved the experience. Would recommend. The only thing to watch out for is rain but the weather apps are quite accurate so you can always plan accordingly. On a sunny day, it is a must!
This campground was very clean. It was more than we could have expected from nice people at desk (one was in training) to a Wonderful escort to our site who got our camper in where we needed to be since we are 37ft and that is the max they can accommodate. We had a gas fireplace on a deck that was great in the evening.
Highly recommend this campground .
Our favorite campground in the US. 26 years of camping and winters in Key West and nothing compares to this place. It's the staff that makes it so special. Great summer home for us. We will be back next summer!
I love KOA’s. They may be pricey for some, however, from SC to CO, you know what you are getting. Friendly welcoming hosts and sites that work. This was a beautiful location that put us right in Estes Park and minutes from RMNP.
